Fitness and Injury Solutions for Indianapolis Area Golfers

What is Golf Fitness ?

Golf fitness is a form of sport specific training.  Golf requires balance, stability, flexibility, proprioception (body awareness), coordination, whole body strength and power.  A golf fitness program should address all of these areas and they need to be handled in a fairly specific order.  The first step in a golf fitness program is a proper evaluation, which will determine your strengths and weaknesses.  Once you know what and where the problems are, then, it's a fairly straight forward process of creating a program for correcting them.  The first areas to be addressed are flexibility, stability and mobility; this is covered in the Intro to Golf Fitness Class along with proper warm-up techniques.  The second phase of training covers muscle balance, coordination, proprioception and core strengthening.  Power training is the third phase of training and is addressed after the weak areas have been corrected.

Why Golf Fitness ?

We have seen huge changes in golf technology; clubs, balls, shafts, grips, shoes, launch monitors etc... You name it, and, there is some way to be custom fit for it.  With all these advancements in equipment, you would think that the average handicap index should be dropping like a rock.  However, statistics show that the average handicap index has remained unchanged for the past 15 years. ( Dr. Bob Rotella, The Golf of Your Dreams ) It takes more than high-tech equipment and practice to play your best golf.  Many tour pros train with personal trainers to stay in top golf condition.
